Gin is a broad category of spirit, but the key flavour must always be juniper (from which its name ultimately derives). While names like Beefeater, Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray are the big sellers, New Zealand has developed its own reputation for premium gin, including Greytown's Lighthouse gin and Auckland's Rogue Society. Don't forget to pick up some very fine Quina Fina tonic water on your way to the checkout!
