New Zealand is most famous on the world wine stage for Sauvignon Blanc, and with good reason. But here at Moore Wilson's we hunt out the best of all the white varieties from local producers, and spice it up with some international contenders from excellent wineries. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris (AKA Pinot Grigio) are the ubiquitous names, but there's plenty more out there: semillon (seh-mi-yohn), viognier, riesling, gewurztraminer...

  1. Green gold with silver flecks. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, grilled white stone fruits, charred applewood with underlying peach blossom and oyster shell. Fresh citrus dominates with crunchy nectarine, crystalized pineapple, sweet baking spice and a saline minerality in support. A fine acid structure is coated with a silky texture to give a long complex finish.
    $48.95 Each
  2. Lifted nashi pear and gala apple characters, with background topical guava and pineapple notes.
    $16.95 Bottle
  3. Bright pale straw colour with lemon tinges. Lovely fresh aromas of white fleshed peach, roasted cashews and hints river stones and toasted brioche. The palate is immediately open with ripe stonefruit and confit lemon flavours surrounded by a lovely creamy texture, a hint of fine oak, and finishing long with a savoury, flinty twist.
    $37.95 Each
  4. Single Vineyard Albarino from the Hope Block on the Waimea plains. White peach, ripe nectarine and apricot notes linger into a long vibrant, saline finish. Lip-smacking!
    $19.95 Each
  5. Probably the best cheap NZ Pinot Gris on the market. A bit drier with some flavoursome tannins, it drinks well with oily fish and finishes clean.
    $13.95 Each
  6. The Treppchen Kabinett always stands out as a young wine, with its precocious red fruits and dense minerality from the red slate soil. This wine benefits greatly from a few years in the bottle.
    $36.95 Bottle
  7. A white powerhouse! The richness, structure, spice and great acidity of the Marsanne and Roussanne compliment the exuberant fruit intensity and roundness of the Viognier creating a full-bodied wine that is packed with apricots, white florals and Mediterranean herbs. This complex blend has a refreshing mineral backbone with the texture of silk. The magnificent depth and richness is followed by a long lasting smooth finish that keeps on giving.
    $58.95 Bottle
  8. The initial impression is tightly woven, but soon expands and opens to reveal intriguing nutty and brioche notes. The breadth and depth are impressive, with a mineral freshness brightening and influencing the seamless and long finish.
    $73.95 Each

  9. This Chardonnay has a full, broad nose of refreshing and bright aromas of ripe yellow stone fruits and citrus fruits along with an edge of creamy and nutty barrel-ferment and spicy oak notes, subtle lemon-curd and buttery MLF notes. The palate has flavours of citrus fruits melded with creamy barrel-ferment and nutty, spicy oak.
    $22.95 Each
  10. This vibrant, aromatic wine has flavours of gooseberry and limes, with a lively finish. We love to drink it with seafood and pasta dishes and delicious summer salads.
    $17.95 Each
  11. A gently rich, rounded Chardonnay, from a fantastic vintage, predominantly grown on a warmer inland vineyard, showing ripe peach with creamy texture and balancing citrus freshness.
    $59.95 Each
  12. Expressive aromatics, with flint, bitter lemon citrus, grapefruit, and suggestions of tropical fruit salad. Rich, fleshy palate with good mouthfeel, texture, and power. Flavours of grapefruit, stone fruit and sweet herbs and pesto.
    $22.95 Each
