Yo ho ho! Rum's long and rebellious history is well-documented, and while old businesses like Mount Gay Rum (from the 18th century) continue to crank out popular drinks, the spirit of piracy and swashbuckling has inspired newcomers such as Wellington's own Smoke & Oakum to produce a whole new category of old-fashioned rums.
  1. Dictador 12 Years Rum is made from the fermentation of virgin sugar cane honey distilled partly in copper alembic and partly in steel continuous column, to achieve a medium body rum. Aged in pre-used oak barrels and finally bottled under the highest quality control to ensure all the secrets are contained in the liquid flavour.
    $93.95 Bottle
  2. Named after brand founder Fred L Myers, the molasses-derived blend of up to nine rums has been produced since 1879. Myers's rum uses only pure Jamaican molasses and is produced from continuous and pot still distillation and is then matured for up to four years in white oak barrels.
    $48.95 Bottle
  3. With its roots going back to 1788, Smith & Cross and its partners became prominent handlers of Jamaica rum, with extensive cellars along the banks of The River Thames. Throughout the 19th century and into the early 20th century, Jamaica Rum became revered for its deep, full flavours and pleasing aromas. This rum represents the distinctively flavourful and aromatic style that made Jamaican rum famous.
    $80.95 Bottle
  4. Finest Demerara Rum shows lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar. Round, mellow, full bodied palate with rich flavours of fruit and spice. The finish is delightful, elegant and dry.
    $98.95 Bottle
  5. Captain Morgan Jamaica is a rum that embodies the spirit of those backstreet tavern parties – with a rich and full-bodied taste perfect for the modern day buccaneers who seek real, authentic fun with their crew.
    $57.95 Bottle
  6. Smooth and medium bodied, Captain Morgan's Spiced Gold gets its distinct richness and amber color from blending aged dark rum and spices.
    $57.95 Bottle
  7. A mixologist favorite, Cruzan® Black Strap Rum features robust licorice and molasses flavors that add an exotic element to your tropical favorites. Its most popular pairings include flavors such as lemon, lime, ginger and pineapple.
    $66.95 Bottle
  8. Navy style dark rum made using spirit from Barbados and Guyana, aged in their countries of origin
    $44.95 Bottle
  9. A spiced rum created by the famed tattoo artist 'Sailor Jerry' Collins. The recipe was recently changed, and made slightly less sweet, but spicier.
    $72.95 Bottle
  10. Made with whole cherries from Centreal Otago, this full flavoured twist on regular rum comes in at a gentler strength of 41% abv. Each bottle is individually numbered and dated.
    $54.95 Bottle
  11. Made in extremely limited numbers, this blend of rums is flavored with peppers, calumet 'tobacco' (a tobacco substitute smoked by Native Americans), and traditional black gunpowder before being hand-bottled with a final flavoring ingredient that gives the appearance of gunpowder grains lying at the bottom of the bottle. Bottled in the nearest bottle to hand at the time, hand wrapped and labelled, so appearance may vary from photograph...
    $111.95 Bottle
  12. The Kraken Rum is an imported rum from the Caribbean blended with secret spices. Named for the sea beast of myth and legend, The KRAKEN RUM is strong, rich, black and smooth.
    $77.95 Bottle
