'Spirits' (AKA 'hard liquor') is the term for all distilled alcohol - in fact, the name 'spirit' came from alchemists who believed the vapor of distillation was a 'spirit' of the original material. Technically 'spirits' and 'liqueurs' are different - spirits have no added sugar, while liqueurs do - but they tend to be lumped together. Virtually all known spirits were used as health tonics or elixirs at some point in history, but transmuted into good fun drinks over time. Many countries have their 'national' drink - gin, whisky, schnapps, grappa, ouzo, soju, vodka, rakia/rakija...there's quite a list. Experiments began with sugars and flavours - resulting in limoncello, cynar, Benedictine...that's an even longer list.
  1. Bacardi Carta Blanca: the classic, famous rum from the world's largest family-owned spirits company.
    $57.95 Bottle
  2. Unbelievably smooth and warming, Monkey Shoulder is the world's first triple malt whisky: a blend of three Speyside single malts.
    $83.95 Bottle
  3. Glenmorangie is a great place to start if you're just getting into Malt Whisky, or a reliable staple to have in the cabinet. The 10 year old is mellow and smooth, with toffee, oak and gentle warming spice this sets a good benchmark for Highland malts.
    $81.95 Bottle
  4. Double matured using oak and sherry casks, Aberlour is famed for outstanding value. Rich, warm and spicy, it has notes of Christmas cake and citrus. Aberlour is a regular award winner for its signature Speyside malt offerings.
    $99.95 Bottle
  5. Super-Premium Polish vodka made from rye grain, giving it a nice hint of vanilla and touch of white pepper on the finish. Distilled four times, this is a seriously smooth vodka, with a delicious subtle rye character.
    $72.95 Bottle
  6. Bowmore 12yo has a place in many hearts as Islay's 'medium-peated' malt. A pronounced iodine character with plenty of pepper, yet the malt is balanced and smooth as well as smoky.
    $89.95 Bottle
  7. This is a Croatian Sljivovica Plum spirit (also known as Sljivovitz). The delicious taste and aroma come from the traditional process of distilling ripe plums from the orchards in the surrounding region.
    $57.95 Bottle
  8. One of Diageo's Classic Malts of Scotland, Dalwhinnie is elegant and deserving of Jim Murray's 'liquid gold' award.
    $108.95 Bottle
  9. Easy drinking, fruity, soft and delicious, this Lowland Single Malt whisky has benefitted hugely from going from 10 to 12 years old. A longterm crowd pleaser.
    $89.95 Bottle
  10. This premium expression from Glenlivet was aged in French Limosin oak casks previously used for maturing cognac. This results in a complex Speyside with rich fudge and dried fruit aromas.
    $122.95 Bottle
  11. The 'Dew' in Tullamore Dew comes from the initials of a General Manager at the Tullamore distillery in the later 19th Century, named Daniel E Williams.
