Despite what the French may tell you, 'Champagne' wine was not invented by the famed monk Dom Pérignon - it was the English! It is largely thanks to 17th-century scientist Christopher Merrit and the superior glass production techniques in England that we have champagne today; though the myth of Perignon stuck better than the truth, and his name is now associated with the prestige cuvee of Moet & Chandon. Now 'Champagne' can refer only to sparkling wine of a certain style, produced in the Champagne region. But while it's the most famous type, don't overlook the extraordinary range of other sparkling wines available, like prosecco and methode traditionelle.
  1. Flourescently pink in the glass and positively bursting with raspberry flavours, this is Fun Wine. Best enjoyed during daylight hours, it's the fizz to serve over a long lunch or to kick off an evening of festivities. Be warned though; once you've had a taste, one bottle may not be enough!
    $32.95 Each
  2. Awatere River Méthode Traditionnelle NV is a classic sparkling wine made by the traditional bottle fermentation method. Showing citrus, apple, red berry and toasty aromas with exuberance, elegance and the complexity expected of a fine sparkling wine.
    $24.95 Each
  3. Tremendous quality and value, from a small but serious family producer. Light gold, elegant bubbles. Smooth, generous mouthfeel, lightly toasted brioche and subtle notes of honey.
    $59.95 Each
  4. Hues of peach and salmon in the glass, the nose opens to wonderful delicate aromas of peach, baked apple and fresh raspberry notes. The scrumptious palate of wild strawberry and cream is augmented by the fine mousse releasing shortbread flavours that leads to a refreshing, refined and salivating finish. Delicious and dry.
    $44.95 Each
  5. Beautifully rose gold in colour - aging on lees in bottle for at least 36 months delivers a wine rich in complexity with brioche flavours layered with hints of apple blossom and citrus.
    $38.95 Bottle
  6. This small-grower Blanc de Noir Champagne is 100% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru vineyards of the Bouzy subregion. Outstanding value for this well-made champagne. Toasted and fruity nose, a bit smoky, with some ripe fruit and some zest at the finish.
    $73.95 Bottle
  7. Mumm Marlborough is a distinctive sparkling wine that marries the best of New Zealand Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes with the Methode Traditionnalle style of French winemaking. The Result is a refine, elegant wine of exceptional quality and delightfully fruity notes.
    $39.95 Bottle
  8. Premium Prosecco from the prestigious Valdobbiadene region. Fine and elegant, fresh and crisp. Green apple, hints of peach and a mouth-watering citrus finish.
    $24.95 Bottle
  9. Full and generous palate. Liquorice, spicy black plum, red currant, and blackberry, with a tinge of pepper. The finish is long and sustained, an ideal pre-dinner aperitif.
    $22.95 Bottle
  10. Subtle creamy notes with hints of fresh brioche. Citrus and pear lift the palate adding layers of complexity intertwined with a creamy softness.
    $37.95 Bottle
  11. Pét-nat is an abbreviation for “pétillant naturel”—a French term that roughly translates to “naturally sparkling”.
    $31.95 Bottle
  12. Salmon pink with very fine and persistent perlage, slightly cloudy due to the presence of the residual refermentation (base). Citrus notes of grapefruit, wild strawberry, floral hints of wild rose. Fresh with marked acidity that recalls pomegranate and green apple peel . Great flavor, balance and persistence.
    $29.95 Bottle
