New Zealand is most famous on the world wine stage for Sauvignon Blanc, and with good reason. But here at Moore Wilson's we hunt out the best of all the white varieties from local producers, and spice it up with some international contenders from excellent wineries. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris (AKA Pinot Grigio) are the ubiquitous names, but there's plenty more out there: semillon (seh-mi-yohn), viognier, riesling, gewurztraminer...

  1. Though an acre on Waiheke Island (seems to) cost more than an acre in Central London,Valhalla is one of this country's great wines for the price. Fine, silky full flavoured and rich.
    $45.95 Bottle
  2. An abundance of fruit and natural sugar with fresh vibrant acidity and a minerality towards the end which is further enhanced by natural carbon dioxide and fruit tannin giving a satisfyingly long dry thirst quenching finish.
    $32.95 Bottle
  3. Very intense and fruity nose with notes of white flowers and quince.
    $31.95 Bottle
  4. Often overlooked because of its famous (little sister) the Savvy, but Cloudy Bay's Chardonnay is those-in-the-know's choice. All peaches with buttery oak and a fine acidity.
    $49.95 Bottle
  5. A broad, complex sauv blanc with an excellent, long zingy finish. There is some creaminess mid palate; also, the fresh tropical fruit is retsrained by an underlying slew of minerality. Produced organically.
    $24.95 Bottle
  6. Low alcohol, but still packed to the gills with ripe fruit and crisp gooseberry.Don't zonk out at parties and still enjoy a wine with flavour. A rare thing these days.
    $19.95 Bottle
  7. Spiced Pink Lady apple, quince and ripe pear flavours are backed with hints of chai spice. Soft textured, with a hint of honey and a gentle citrus backbone.
    $14.95 Bottle
  8. A fine organic Chardonnay from Gisborne. Ripe melon and pineapple flavour with complex oak and savoury notes. Medium bodied with a powerful mid-palate and lasting finish.
    $36.95 Bottle
  9. On the nose is typically varietal, with pure aromas of melon, pears and citrus zest. The palate is supple and juicy, with luscious tropical fruit and a fine mineral thread, leading to a fresh and sustained finish.
    $17.95 Bottle
  10. From the team at Sileni comes this easy drinking and approachable Pinot Gris. Medium bodied with ripe tropical fruits and a touch of soft spice.
    $15.95 Bottle
  11. Another cracker from Peregrine, this organic Pinot Gris is dry in style with lovely texture and fresh flavours of apricot, pear and ginger. Produced organically.
    $26.95 Bottle
  12. More reliably-excellent winemaking from Clearview. A light, easy drinking style showing up-front fruit. Pears and lychee flavours combine to produce a light fresh wine.
    $21.95 Bottle
