New Zealand is most famous on the world wine stage for Sauvignon Blanc, and with good reason. But here at Moore Wilson's we hunt out the best of all the white varieties from local producers, and spice it up with some international contenders from excellent wineries. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris (AKA Pinot Grigio) are the ubiquitous names, but there's plenty more out there: semillon (seh-mi-yohn), viognier, riesling, gewurztraminer...

  1. Flinty, stony aromas stand out while in the background is a hard spice note from surlee barrel aging. There are notes of lemon-lime and soft vanilla. With the first taste it is irresistible.
    $52.95 Bottle
  2. The wine exhibits some flinty sulphide notes over aromatics of green pepper, gooseberry and nettles with additional tones of passion fruit and lychee. The palate is fresh and vibrant with vibrant acidity balanced by weight and texture from the barrel fermentation and a long persistent gin and tonic like finish.
    $29.95 Bottle
  3. Full bodied and full flavoured with notes of butterscotch and toasty oak, tropical fruit and a lingering finish.
    $34.95 Bottle
  4. From one of NZ's most coastal vineyards, Seaview in the Awatere. Intense snowpea, blackcurrant and papaya, and a distinctive mineral freshness on the finish.
    $22.95 Bottle
  5. Crafted by boutique, organic outfit, Darling Wines. Luscious pear and citrus flavours glide across the palate, but with a lovely fresh feeling.
    $18.95 Bottle
  6. Intense aromatic characters of rose petal, orange blossom and coriander. The palate is broad and soft with an excellent balance, while remaining dry on the finish.
    $21.95 Bottle

  7. Winner of the Trophy for Chardonnay at the NZ International Wine Show in Sept 2011. Great balance of fruit and oak with a lingering finish.
    $24.95 Bottle
  8. A full flavoured Sauvignon from Marlborough with intense gooseberry and passionfruit. Dry and balanced with a lasting finish.
    $19.95 Bottle
  9. The first new addition to the hugely successful Haha range of wines, it is a well priced, fun chardonnay with good fruit and some crowd pleasing buttery notes.
    $15.95 Bottle
  10. Exceptionally good value for money and a great everyday drinking style of savvy. Also, it's not too heavy on the tropical fruit, giving a finer, laid back feel that's better with food.
    $15.95 Bottle
  11. Haha continue to go from strength to strength. This recent addition is a delicate, drinkable expression of an increasingly popular varietal.
    $15.95 Bottle
  12. Apple, tangerine and wet stones overlie subdued exotic floral notes. A burst of sweetness on the palate is quickly tempered by hallmark natural acidity. Perfectly integrated sweetness is harmonised by a mineral expression from the schist soils, the low alcohol (9.5%) and dancing acid structure. An expressive and finely poised Riesling potentiating exciting food matches.
